Municipal Curbside Recycling Pickup Programs

Curbside recycling is a program where residents have a recycling bin at their home that is picked up and processed by a local Material Recovery Facility (MRF). Some communities operate their own Curbside programs while others contract with a private company. Some will pay fees to the private company while others may offer it as a subscription service and residents pay the private company.

A variety of recyclable materials are often accepted curbside, but differ by program. Most curbside programs in Alabama are co-mingled, single-stream, which means all recyclable materials are placed in the same bin and sorted at a local MRF by mechanical and manual processes.
