February 6 @ 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm

Join us for our next Green Drinks happy hour “Defending Alabama’s Rivers at the State House with Alabama Rivers Alliance” at our EAT Sustainability partner Filter Coffee Parlor upstairs on Thursday, February 6, 5:30-6:30 p.m.. Talk will begin promptly at 5:45 p.m.

As the 2025 Alabama Legislative Session kicks off on February 4, the Alabama Rivers Alliance is in Montgomery meeting with our elected officials to make sure Alabama’s rivers and streams—and the people and critters who rely on it—are protected. Hear from Charles Miller, ARA’s Policy Director, as he provides updates on potential legislation making its way through the State House in 2025. Charles will also let you know how YOU can help #DefendRivers in Alabama!

Free & open to the public! $10 suggested donation to support our mission. RSVP by clicking here (please mention RSVP for this Green Drinks Feb. 6th in the comment/message section) & click here to donate. RSVP not required but encouraged for planning purposes.

About the location:
Filter is staying open late for our event and has many tea and coffee drinks to keep you warm plus other nonalcoholic options! Their featured “green drink” will be their Pollinated Bee, a traditional prepared matcha mixed with house-made lavender blossom syrup & steamed milk. All drinks will be 10% off for happy hour!

About the speaker:
Charles Miller is the Policy Director at the Alabama Rivers Alliance. He is no stranger to making a difference in the world of conservation and environmental protection in Alabama. He was honored as the inaugural recipient of the Alabama Rivers Alliance’s Emerging Leader award in 2018 (way before he was on the team!), and his dedication and impact have only grown since. Charles was a founding member of ARA’s Young Professionals group, and after demonstrating his deep love for Robert’s Rule, quickly became a member of the Board of Directors. In 2021, he was recognized nationally with the Emerging Leader award from River Network.

Charles has an impressive background, having clerked or interned with Southern Environmental Law Center, Black Warrior Riverkeeper, American Rivers, and the EPA’s Office of Criminal Enforcement, Forensics, and Training. He holds a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Alabama School of Law and a B.A. in political science from UA, as well as a master’s certificate in nonprofit management from UAB. After serving as the Policy Manager at Missouri Confluence Waterkeeper, Charles returned to Alabama in 2024 with his wife, Robin, and continues his work to #DefendRivers.

About Alabama Rivers Alliance:
